Samsung 2024 Neo QLED & QLED TVs Earn First VDE Picture Quality Awards

HDR Brightness Accuracy certification awarded to TV models that accurately reproduce HDR brightness levels for ultra-realistic images

True Cinema Black certification demonstrates TVs’ ability to deliver deep blacks and immersive viewing experiences

Samsung Electronics America today announced that seven models in its 2024 Neo QLED and QLED lineup are the first in the industry to receive both the HDR Brightness Accuracy and True Cinema Black certifications from Verband Deutscher Elektrotechniker (VDE), a leading German electrical engineering certification institute.

“Technology continues to advance, enabling us to deliver an unmatched cinematic experience right in our customers’ homes,” said Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President and Deputy Head of R&D Team, Samsung Visual Display Business. “We are committed to setting the highest standards for picture quality in both high-resolution and big-screen TVs, and we are proud that our Neo QLED and QLED TVs have earned these industry-first certifications from VDE.”

Realistic Color and True-to-Life Visuals

Six Samsung 2024 Neo QLED 8K and 4K models, as well as one QLED 4K model achieved the industry’s first HDR Brightness Accuracy certification from VDE. This certification assures that these models can accurately reproduce the brightness levels of HDR content, staying true to HDR standards and delivering picture quality that closely matches what’s perceived by the human eye.

HDR technology enhances both the bright and dark areas of an image, providing detailed and realistic visuals that bring content to life. Whether placed in a living room, bedroom, office, kitchen or anywhere else in the home, Samsung Neo QLED and QLED TVs offer exceptional cinematic quality across environments.

Elevating the Home Viewing Experience

The seven Samsung 2024 Neo QLED and QLED models also set a new standard in home entertainment as the first to earn the True Cinema Black certification, which is awarded for exceptional local dimming performance. The TVs are capable of transforming wide aspect ratio films into a 4:3 format, precisely fitting the screen without any light blooming, and thus preserving the integrity of cinematic content.

The certification is based on strict evaluations of black levels in the Letterbox area of the screen, with VDE ensuring that these areas remain deep and immersive when viewing official footage provided by the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) — within the guidelines of the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). The TVs’ superior local dimming performance eliminates unwanted light interference, allowing you to experience movies as they were intended, with deep blacks and vivid details, akin to how you would in a theater.

These certifications are the latest in a slew of benchmarks achieved by 2024 Samsung TVs, illustrating the brand’s commitment to achieving high standards of innovation and quality that are recognized across the industry. That includes Pantone ArtfulColor validation on the 2024 edition of The Frame, delivering even more realistic, gallery-worthy visuals.

Samsung also achieved Common Criteria certification verifying the security integrity of Samsung Knox and “Product Carbon Reduction” certification for eight product series in its Samsung 2024 Neo QLED, Neo QLED 4K, OLED, and The Frame lineups.
